Fork
lift information
There
are many different types of fork lifts. They are mainly rated
according to their lift capacity and the height they can lift,
although they are also divided by their engine type, whether
internal combustion or electric. Capacity ranges from 3000
to 35,000 pounds, usually falling in the range of 4,000 to
8,000 pounds. The best way to determine what you need is to
take an average of your loads per day, if there is very little
change from day to day, and then you know what your maximum
weight capacity should be. If your weights fluctuate greatly
from day to day, then go with your high end, so you can be
sure you always have enough power to handle your highest loads.
The
height you need from your fork lift is easier to determine.
If your warehouse has 20-foot shelves, then you know you need
a fork lift with a reach of at least that high, but if your
fork lift is mainly used for loading and unloading cargo containers,
then height is not much of a concern. Fortunately, your height
requirements are not going to change as much as the weight,
unless you are planning to build a new addition or warehouse,
so consider the immediate future when deciding on height.
